Choose a starting order number

With sequential order numbers built in to Managed WooCommerce Stores, you can change the starting order number and control its length.

About the starting order number

The starting order number is the starting number for any newly placed orders (this will not affect existing orders). This can be used to start order numbering at an arbitrary point, as long as you select a starting number that is higher than the current highest order number.

You can also use it to advance the order number in a shop with existing orders; for instance, if the current highest order number is 24, you can set the starting order number to 500, and the next orders placed will be: 500, 501, 502, etc.

By default, your starting order number will be 1 or your highest existing order number, and will appear in the Order Number Format box.

  1. Sign in to WordPress.
  2. Navigate to WooCommerce and click on Settings.
  3. Select the Orders tab and, in the Order Number Format box, change the number to be your desired base order number.
Note: If you want to control the order number length, you can add leading zeros in front of the number. For instance, if you want four-digit order numbers, your starting number would be 0001.
