Remove Google malware warning

If your WordPress site is compromised you may find that Google has blocklisted your site, and is now warning anyone that finds your page through their search results.

After cleaning or removing the infected files you'll need to request a scan from Google, so they can remove the warnings from their search results.

If you're unsure how to clean your site, then you may want to consider using our Website Security services.

Set up Google Search Console

Before you can request Google to remove your site from their malware blocklist, you need to prove ownership of the domain. To do this, you must have a Google Search Console account (formerly Webmaster Tools).

  1. Log in to the Google Search Console with your Google login.
  2. Click the "Add a property" button.
  3. Enter your domain.
  4. Click Add.
  5. Click the link to download the HTML verification file.
  6. Upload the file to your hosting account. (cPanel / Plesk / Web Hosting / Managed WordPress)
  7. Once uploaded, click the link in the Google Search Console to confirm.
  8. Click Verify.
  9. Click Continue.

After adding your site to the Google Search Console, and verifying ownership, the next step is to request a review of your site from Google

  1. Log in to the Google Search Console with your Google account login.
  2. From within the dashboard, click on the site in question.
  3. Click the Security Issues link.
  4. Select Request a review.
  5. Provide any requested information.

Google may take several days to complete the Malware review. Once complete, the results of their review will be located on the messages page of the Google Search Console.
